Our summer surf camp in Spain is situated in the small town of San Vicente de la Barquera, in the region of Cantabria, just a 45-minute drive West of Santander. San Vicente sits beneath the mountains, amidst the rugged scenery of Northern Spain, at the estuary of a river. It’s a far cry away from the touristic hotspots of the Costa del Sol. The landscape within which our surf camp is set has so much to explore: beautiful golden sand beaches, great waves, stunning views, authentic Spanish culture, a rich history, delicious fresh seafood, and epic parties.
The surf camp itself is just 80m from the closest beach and our main surf spot. There are also several other beaches close by too. Our tents are set amongst plenty of greenery, providing a relaxing escape from everyday life and plenty of shade if you wish to escape the hot midday sun.
However, such a close proximity to the surf doesn’t mean that the town isn’t accessible. There are supermarkets, bars and restaurants just 30m from our camp, and the town centre of San Vicente de la Barquera is just 800m away.

Accommodation Spain - Comfortable Camping
Our accommodation in the north of Spain is located on the beautiful campsite El Rosal, directly on the coast and only 80 meters from the beach in San Vicente de la Barquera, which is a perfect location for a surfing holiday in an intimate atmosphere. The campsite is run by Spanish people and always kept neat and tidy, just like the sanitary facilities.
Green areas with trees prividing shade make this camp perfect. This is where we built up a tented village for you.
You will share our spacious 4-men glamping tents with just one other person. Like this, you have plenty of space to spread out, make yourself at home and start every surfing day well rested. Especially now, that we have our new glamping tents with wooden floors at our camp! You can't have more luxury while camping!
You don´t need to bring anything, we offer you a mattress and bed sheets.
Other then the tents for sleeping, there is plenty more at our camp. Our chef prepares delicious meals for you in our kitchen tent. In our surf tent, you can find all the surfing material like boards, wetsuits, and much more. You can also rent the material outside of lessons. In our party tent, we relax during the day and party at night or just enjoy hanging out with each other and watch surf movies or DVDs. This is the perfect meeting point for all the people staying at the camp and thus gives you the opportunity to meet new people, make new friends and plan activities together. Our music system sets the mood for parties or chill evenings just hanging out.
You can always our sports equipment to let out all the energy you have left after the surf lessons, for example during a round of table tennis with your new friends. Our lovingly built up camps with a lot of attention to detail, will definitely give you the chance to feel comfortable and welcome and enjoy the perfect holiday!
If you want to get out of the camp, this is no problem - there are bars, restaurants and the beach very close to our camp in San Vicente de la Barquera. Come and see for yourself!
Food Surf Camp Spain
To get the most out of your surfing sessions, your body needs to be fuelled with the right nutrition. That’s why, at our surf camp in San Vicente we offer you a delicious and nutritious buffet.
In the morning you’ll enjoy an extensive breakfast buffet packed with meats and cheeses, fruit, cereals, spreads, yogurt and freshly baked baguettes. To accompany there are fruit juices, teas and freshly brewed coffee. The buffet runs for two hours to suit both early and late risers, and to ensure that breakfast can be enjoyed as a relaxed affair.
At breakfast you’ll also pack your lunch for the day, meaning come lunchtime there’s no need to stray far from the surf! Choose from the varied array of options on offer and prepare yourself a tasty and filling lunch that you’ll look forward to when you break from the water.
When evening arrives, you’ll have a delicious hot dinner to enjoy over discussion of the day’s waves with your fellow surfers. Dinner is freshly prepared each day, onsite, and accompanied by a fresh salad and sweet dessert.
You don´t need to bring any dishes. Every guest gets a bowl, plate, mug, lunchbox and cutlery. Vegetarian options are available on request. Please indicate this, and any allergies, at booking.
Extra highlight: Hamburger vouchers
In addition to the regular meals, you can book hamburger vouchers for 8€.
Once a week, our food truck opens at the camp, where our chef prepares fresh burgers and chips - vegetarian and vegan options are also available, of course.

Yoga at Our Surf Camp in San Vicente
At our Surf Camp in San Vicente de la Barquera we run yoga sessions each day to complement your surfing. Whether you’ve never tried yoga before, or you’re a seasoned pro, our yoga instructor would love you to join them in their daily practise. Stretch out and relax!
Yoga and surfing go hand in hand. Yoga provides relaxation, stretching and strengthening of any muscles aching from surfing. Furthermore, the practice of yoga offers improved flexibility and balance, both of which aid your performance in the water. Leave any stresses and worries behind and unwind in our yoga classes!

Activities Surf Camp Spain - So Much More Than Just Surfing
At our camp in San Vicente, we want you to be able to surf as much as you desire on your holiday, and not just be limited to your lesson times. That’s why we provide free board and wetsuit hire to all of our guests for the duration of their stay. Get in the water and put into practise what your instructor has been teaching you in your surf lessons!
However, if you like to mix it up a bit and not devote your time solely to surfing, you need not worry! There are plenty of activities to get involved with besides surfing. There’s a beach volleyball court for some friendly tournaments, slacklines to improve your balance on, and a trampoline to bounce about on. There are also ping-pong tables, table-football, and we also have longboards too, if you fancy a skate.
Of course, if all you want to do when you leave the water is chill, there are plenty of shady spots to relax in under the trees, in addition to the sun-soaked beach. For further relaxation there are daily yoga sessions that you can take part in for free too!
If you want to get out of camp and explore the local area, there is plenty to see! The town of San Vicente de la Barquera is only a short stroll away from the camp. San Vicente has some impressive architecture to admire, as well as plenty of cafes, bars and restaurants. The local fishing boats bring delicious fresh seafood to the area on a regular basis providing the restaurants with the freshest of ingredients.
When dusk falls, our friendly team will ensure you’re not bored with a varied evening entertainment programme. From movie nights to live music, from beach Olympics to party nights, the evenings are a great opportunity to socialise with friends new and old.

Surf Lessons Spain - Learn How to Surf in Spain
San Vicente de la Barquera is home to two beaches for surfing. The first is just 80m from our surf camp, has consistently great waves and is where our surf lessons usually take place. However, on the rare occasion that the waves get too big here, we teach our lessons on the second beach, namely Oyambre beach. Thus, no matter what the surf conditions, there is a break where we can safely teach our surf lessons at.
Our surf camp in San Vicente offers lessons for all abilities, whether you’ve never surfed before, or are working on your advanced manoeuvres. Students are allocated into groups based on their ability level, meaning that you are surfing with others of similar ability, to maximise your progress and ensure your safety in the water. Lessons are taken with a maximum of eight students per instructor, and all of our surf instructors hold an official licence to instruct.
Our surf lesson programmes consist of 22 surf lessons each week, with each lesson lasting 45 minutes. Thus, lessons are grouped into sessions, and you will thus usually take four lessons of 45 minutes each day, for six days, giving you three hours of tuition with one of our experienced surf instructors per day.
If you want to surf outside of the lesson times too, you need not worry as we provide free, unlimited board and wetsuit hire for the duration of your stay.
Surf Lessons Spain - BEGINNER COURSE
If you’ve never surfed before but are keen to learn how, then our beginner course is made for you! Over the course of the 22 lessons, our instructors will get you up and standing on the board, and surfing in the whitewash. You’ll learn the correct technique from your first lesson and our instructors will ensure that learning to surf is a lot of fun! They will also teach you the basic theoretical knowledge of how the waves work and the surfing etiquette of the sea, to heighten your understanding and allow you to surf safely. If you’ve never surfed before, the beautiful beach break of San Vicente is an ideal place to learn!
Surf Lessons Spain - INTERMEDIATE COURSE
If you already have some prior surfing experience, but are still relatively new to the sport, then our intermediate surf lesson course is the one for you! You’ll progress your surfing under the watchful eye of your instructor, and move on from just surfing the whitewash, to surfing the green, unbroken waves. Over the course of the 22 lessons, your instructor will teach you how to confidently and safely surf ‘out-back’, as well as to how to begin to turn on the waves. Surf Lessons Spain - ADVANCED COURSE
For surfers who are already comfortable in surfing green waves of up to 1.5m there is our advanced surf lesson programme. Over the course of 22 surf lessons per week, your experienced instructor will work with you to progress your manoeuvres on the waves. Surf Lessons Spain - CHILL AND SURF
For those who the idea of 3 hours of surfing per day seems a bit too much, we offer our chill and surf lesson package. Over the course of the week you’ll enjoy 12 surf lessons of 45 minutes allowing you to work on your surfing, but also have plenty of time to relax and explore the local area. If your idea of the perfect surf holiday is mainly chilling with some surfing chucked in too, then our chill and surf package is the ideal choice for you!

Travel to Our Surf Camp by Plane
If you are travelling to our surf camp by air, it’s easiest to fly to either Santander or Bilbao airport. You can find cheap flights to these airports using a flight search engine, such as Skyscanner. Flying to Santander:
With Ryanair you can fly to Santander from Brussels, Dublin, Edinburgh or London-Stansted.
With Vueling you can fly to Santander from Amsterdam, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Eindhoven, Leeds, London, London-Gatwick, Liverpool, Luxemburg, Manchester, Newcastle and Rotterdam.
With Iberia you can fly to Santander from Amsterdam, Belfast, Birmingham, Brussels, Cork, Dublin, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Jersey, London, Luxemburg, Manchester, Newcastle and Rotterdam.
From Santander airport you can take the bus to San Vicente. This takes just over an hour. Check out ALSA for more information on timetabling. Alternatively, we offer a shuttle service to our camp. The shuttle service is available on Fridays, Saturday and Sundays. Our shuttle service is available on demand and subsequent to prior booking.
Flying to Bilbao:
With easyJet you can fly to Bilbao from Bristol, London-Stansted and Manchester.
With Vueling you can fly to Bilbao from Amsterdam, Belfast, Birmingham, Brussels, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Eindhoven, Leeds, Liverpool, London, London-Gatwick, London-Heathrow, Luxemburg, Maastricht, Manchester, Newcastle and Rotterdam.

From Bilbao airport you can reach San Vicente by bus. First take the bus to the city of Bilbao, and then change onto the bus to San Vicente. The total bus journey takes approximately 3.5 hours. Check out ALSA for more information on the timetabling of the buses.

Shuttle Service
The shuttle service is the most comfortable way of getting to the surf camp from the airport despite the possibility of slight delays due to heavy traffic. To be able to guarantee you a spot on the shuttle, we need your booking request 4 days prior to your arrival as well as information about your arrival (airport, date and time) and a contact telephone number. You will only be able to request the shuttle service after having booked your stay at our surf camp.
IMPORTANT: if you need a shuttle back from the camp to the airport/bus station etc you have to book it DIRECTLY IN THE CAMP 3 DAYS BEFORE YOUR DEPARTURE. You have to provide us all info we need to know Thank you. In our shuttle bus you can take one piece of luggage. The luggage must not weigh more than 20kg and the maximum allowed size is 160 cm (e.g. 80 x 40 x 40 cm).
We offer shuttle services from both Santander airport as well as Bilbao airport to our surf camp in San Vicente. The prices as presented below are per person and per trip.
