What to Pack For Surf Camp – Fuerteventura Edition!

So, you’ve made the excellent decision to book a trip to our surf camp in Fuerteventura, nice one! You’re soon to leave all your daily stresses behind, and jump on a plane over to our sunny island paradise. First, however, you’ve got to pack! But what to pack for a surf camp? Thus, let us give you a helping hand by giving you a run down of the things that people always forget!

Towels!... Yes, you totally can stand at the beach in your swimming gear until the wind dries you, but we find that a towel provides a more enjoyable and more thorough drying experience. Additionally, if you’re not a fan of the post-shower sand scrub, then it’s probably a good idea to bring a second towel that doesn’t venture to the beach with you. Extra points if your towel features your 5 metre swimming badge – a sure fire way to gain cred on the beach. If you’re really short on luggage space you can hire towels from us for 3€ per towel per week.

What to pack for a surf camp

Swimming gear!...We’d prefer it if you didn’t go butt naked in our wetsuits! Bring a bikini/ swimming costume /boardies /extra boxers to wear underneath your wetsuit. Something that’s not too baggy and that doesn’t have any beads or tassels that’ll dig in is best. That way you’ll be more comfortable in the water, and prevent the dreaded chafe. Leading on from that, a tin of Vaseline may be you best-friend mid-week if you find you find your wetsuit is rubbing a little.

Sun protection!...It’s super sunny here! We’re sure you’ve heard numerous times before about the dangers of the sun’s UV radiation, but in all your holiday excitement, please don’t forget to protect your skin from the sun. Seriously, sun damage isn’t cool! Regularly reapply high SPF sunscreen throughout the day, protect your eyes with UV blocking sunglasses, and drink plenty of water to prevent sunstroke.

Protect your face! You only have one.

Warm Clothes!... The weather here is lovely. We consistently see temperatures in the 20’s, and rain is almost unheard of. That being said, Fuerteventura is known for its strong winds, and it can get cool at night. For sure, bring plenty of warm-weather clothes, but chuck in a beanie, a hoodie, and long trousers too, just in case.

Keep your head warm!

EHIC!... If you’re eligible for the free European Health Insurance Card, then get one and bring it! Whilst no one wants to get injured on holiday, accidents do happen. You’ll take so much more pleasure from recounting the tale of how you got stitches from some big ass wave surfing (even if in reality you just tripped over on your way to the beach) if you don’t have to pay a premium for medical care. Slip it in your wallet before you leave home.

Euros in cash!... When you check in we require a 10€ deposit for your room key. If you have this in the correct cash already, and aren’t expecting change for a 200€ note this will speed up the check-in process! There are plenty of ATMs around Corralejo for you to withdraw money from, and you’ll also find several at the airport too.

No money, no honey

Plug adaptor!... If you’re from a country that doesn’t use the two pin Europlug, don’t forgot your plug adaptor. You won’t be able to win a shirt in our Insta comp, or reassure your Mum that you haven’t been attacked by a shark if you don’t have charge on your phone.

Passport and IDs!…Yep, it’s the most obvious thing, but also the one that slips the mind the easiest. If you’re flying to us, you’re going to need a passport or some other sort of form of ID. We want to laugh at your teenage haircut, and so do the immigration officers, so don’t forget your ID or you’re not going to get very far.  Furthermore, if you’re planning on hiring a car whilst you are out here, don’t forget your driving licence.

Also, just in case you’re wondering, you don’t need to bring bed sheets! Your bed will be made up ready for you arrival with freshly laundered sheets.

That’s about it! You’re all set for a great surf holiday with us in Fuerteventura! We look forward to welcoming you into our surf house soon.

Don’t forget your towel!
